The Auchi Kingdom in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State today witnessed a significant spiritual milestone with the formal opening of Masjidu Al-Hassan, a newly constructed mosque dedicated to the memory of the late Alhaji Alasa Aruna, affectionately known as "Guy Atsukusu."
The impressive edifice, built by the children of the deceased, which is located at City Pride Bakery Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi was officially inaugurated by the Chief Imam of Auchi Kingdom, Professor Zekeriyah Oseni.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of community members, religious leaders, and well-wishers.
During his opening address, Professor Zekeriyah Oseni lauded the initiative as a "significant achievement, the true value of which many will not fully grasp until the Day of Judgment." He expressed immense happiness over the project, noting it as a clear sign of Auchi's continuous progress and development.
"My prayer," the Chief Imam declared, "is that under my leadership as the Chief Imam, God makes the entire community members His friends."
He, however, tempered his joy with a solemn warning, urging the congregation to "desist from worshipping money and material things as these are ephemeral." He encouraged people to invest in similar projects that will always benefit humanity, adding that such investments attract rewards event after death as well as bringing development to the society.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Mutanebi Asenta Alasa, a surviving son and the Head of Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the National Museum, Kaduna, articulated the motivation behind the noble endeavour. He was joined by his sister, Ms. Alaska Kadhija. Mr. Alasa stated that their father, who passed away in 1985, lived a "fulfilled life," which inspired them to construct the mosque for the community in his enduring memory.
The late Alhaji Alasa Aruna was a prominent businessman and farmer, primarily recognized for his extensive involvement in palm oil cultivation and trade. His legacy of hard work and community spirit now finds a permanent home in Masjidu Al-Hassan, a testament to his children's love and dedication.
The mosque stands as a beacon of faith and a lasting tribute to a man remembered for his contributions to the Auchi community.
