Day (8)

By Sparknewsline9jaltd

Fasting is not obligatory upon the aged (the elderly person) who is not able to fast because of old age.

Old people who cannot fast are required to give as arms, two measures of Mudd an-Nabiyu or feed a poor man with cooked food for each missed day.

The arms for the number of days missed or are expected to be missed can be given out at once at the beginning of fasting or divided over the days of Ramadan. They could also be given to a single person or divided among several people.

A mud is a grain measure equivalent to what an average size man can hold on to, using both hands brought together, palm cupped and moderately spread out.

Evidence that fasting is not obligatory upon old people is base on the statement of Allah, the most High in Qur'an 2 Verse 184: "....And as for those who fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc) they have (the choice either to observe fasting or) to feed a destitute person (for everyday missed)....."

Yaa Allah, grant us everlasting blessings of Ramadan.

Ramadan Kareem.
