Fasting is not obligatory upon a woman during her menstrual cycle and child birth. But she will restitute what she missed.
Fasting is also not Obligatory upon the pregnant women and the breastfeeding women. This is especially when she fears for her health or the health of her pregnancy or the health of the child she is breastfeeding.
Evidence for this is the Hadith narrated by Anas Ibn Malik Al-Ka'bi (may Allah be pleased with him) who said, Allah's Messenger (SAW) said: "Verily Allah has rescinded half of prayers for the wayfarer and has rescinded fasting for the wayfarer, the breastfeeding and the pregnant woman"
(Hadith no. 1669, Sunan Ibn Maajah).
