The Managing Director of the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Ease of Doing Business Secretariat, Mr Amen Odigie recently hosted a strategic meeting with representatives from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to re-establish rapport and discuss new administrative priorities.
The meeting, held recently at ESIPO, marked a renewed commitment to the partnership that began between ESIPO and GIZ in 2019. Mr. Odigie highlighted the new administration's focus areas, including coming among the top 5 in the state's ease of doing business ranking in Nigeri and capacity building for the staff members.
Other priorities discussed include the development of an online business directory for MSMEs, peer learning to other progressive Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) within and outside Nigeria, and the full operationalization of the one-stop-investment center (ES-OSIC).
Key discussions centered around strategies to enhance the business environment and infrastructure in Edo State. Plans for a stakeholder workshop, a breakfast meeting with CEOs of businesses and the Governor to achieve investor's confidence and financial literacy initiatives in collaboration with financial institutions and MDAs were also outlined.
Concerns regarding staffing and functionality of the one-stop-investment center were addressed, along with the need for energy solutions to support local businesses.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to maintain communication and collaboration accordingly.
Mr. Odigie expressed his determination to improve Edo State's ranking in the ease of doing business index.
"When I see what has been put on ground in terms of business environment in Edo, I now wonder how the ranking was done that placed the state in the current position," he stated.
The GIZ SEDIN team, led by State Coordinator Mr. Nosa Obayowana, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ESIPO's initiatives. The two organizations agreed to regular exchanges with relevant agencies and enhanced support.
As the new year approaches, both ESIPO and GIZ are optimistic about the future of their partnership and the positive impact it will have on Edo State's economic development.
