Govr Okpebholo Assures Completion of Ekpoma-Benin Road Repairs Before Christmas

By Abdul-Kadir Abdullah

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged that the ongoing repairs on the failed portion of the Obadan Junction road along the Benin-Ekpoma Expressway will be completed before Christmas.

Governor Okpebholo, who inspected the project for the third time on Thursday evening since assuming office on November 12, 2024, commended the contractors for their relentless efforts. He noted that the work is progressing rapidly, with teams working round the clock to meet the festive season deadline.

“We need to fix this road between now and Christmas because, without it, people will find it very difficult to travel. This is the third time I am coming here to monitor the progress of work to ensure it is completed on time,” the Governor said.

The Governor described the road as a critical gateway linking the South, East, and Northern parts of Nigeria, emphasizing its importance for safe and smooth travel during the holidays.

Despite the road being a federal project, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fixing the road for the benefit of Edo residents and Nigerians at large.

“It doesn’t really matter if it’s a federal road. People from Edo State, Eastern, and Northern parts of the country use this road. Our focus is to ensure it is motorable,” he said.

He further stated that his administration plans to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a refund of the funds spent on the repairs.

Aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, Governor Okpebholo said the project reflects the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to delivering tangible benefits to the people.

“Doing this road will boost the credibility of our party and the APC-led government. Nothing is wrong with fixing this road for Edo people,” he added.

The Governor’s inspection underscores his administration’s dedication to addressing critical infrastructure challenges and ensuring the comfort of travelers during the festive season.
