Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ongoing Ramat Park flyover project in Benin City, announcing that the landmark infrastructure is on course for commissioning in November, 2026.
Speaking after an inspection tour of the project site recently, the governor said the flyover and the accompanying road network and drainage infrastructure were progressing steadily, transforming the landscape of the area and improving the overall outlook of the state capital.
According to him, the project is part of his administration's commitment to modernizing Edo's infrastructure and creating an environment that supports economic growth and urban development.
Okpebholo said, "We have gone round to see how far the construction of the Ramat Park flyover has progressed. Apart from the flyover, the road network within the area is equally commendable,"
The governor noted that the transformation taking place around Ramat Park has already begun to attract visitors, describing the area as an emerging tourist destination.
He added, "This place is now more beautiful than it was before. We are also making serious progress in the storm water drainage system around the facility,"
Okpebholo disclosed that plans were underway for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commission the project in November, coinciding with activities marking his second year in office.
He said, "We are hoping that President Bola Tinubu will come to commission this project by November during the celebration of my two years in office. Before then, we would have made a lot of progress. The park should also be ready, so that this place will become very beautiful,"
The governor further commended the Federal Government's economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that the policy had strengthened the financial capacity of states and enabled governors to execute more developmental projects.
Project Manager of the flyover, Li Jianshou, confirmed that the project had reached over 95 per cent completion. He explained that the remaining works include the installation of street lights, road markings, expansion of junctions and painting of the bridge, assuring that the project would be ready for commissioning in November.
Residents and traders who witnessed the inspection expressed appreciation to the governor for the project, describing it as a major transformation of the Ikpoba Hill axis and a development that would enhance commercial activities and ease traffic movement in the area.
