Edo State pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have held a special prayer session in Makkah, seeking divine guidance, protection and success for the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo and the people of Edo State.
The prayer session was led by Amirul Hajj and Oghieaga of Ivbie, HRH Mallam Ali D. Sulayman, alongside the leadership of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Speaking during the prayer gathering, the Amirul Hajj urged the pilgrims to continue praying for the progress of Edo State and Nigeria, while offering special supplications for Governor Okpebholo, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor Esq., and other government officials.
He prayed for Allah's protection, guidance and continued success for the state's leadership.
He said, "From the Governor of the State through the SSG, Umar Musa Ikhilor Esq., may Allah sustain them, protect them and make provisions for them. May Allah continue to improve their affairs and accomplish them in all ramifications of life,"
He added that the pilgrims were grateful to Allah for granting them the opportunity to perform the Hajj and expressed optimism that the country's challenges would improve through prayers and collective efforts.
"There is no situation that is beyond Allah. Allah has made it possible for us to be here. We pray that as we return home, the situation will not remain the same. May the security situation improve, may the economy improve and may all aspects of our lives witness positive changes. Those who have sponsored and supported us, may Allah replenish them abundantly," he stated.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musa Muhammad Uduimoh, commended the pilgrims for their cooperation and adherence to instructions throughout the Hajj exercise.
He stressed the importance of obedience to constituted authority, noting that the welfare and successful completion of Hajj rites by Edo pilgrims remained the board's top priority.
"As the Chairman, my primary aim is to protect you, guide you through the Hajj rites and provide welfare for you all. I appreciate your cooperation and urge you to continue to obey the leadership and regulations guiding the pilgrimage," Uduimoh said.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Eranga Abdulkabir Muhammadkabir also addressed the pilgrims, informing them of arrangements made by the Edo State Government for their seamless return home.
He announced that the government had provided vehicles that would convey pilgrims from Lagos, where they are expected to arrive from Saudi Arabia, to Benin City and Auchi.
He urged the pilgrims to remain orderly and cooperative throughout the return process, assuring them that the welfare of every pilgrim remained a priority of the board.
Eranga also offered prayers for continued unity, wisdom and strength among members of the board, asking Allah to guide them in the discharge of their responsibilities and protect them from actions capable of undermining the success of the pilgrimage.
The special prayer session, which formed part of the spiritual activities undertaken by Edo pilgrims in the Holy Land was first held in Madinah, and in Arafat.
This particular one was held in Makkah as they prepare for their eventual return to Nigeria after the completion of the 2026 Hajj rites.
