The Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, and the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Eranga Abdulkabir Muhammadkabir, have urged Edo pilgrims currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to strictly adhere to approved luggage regulations as preparations intensify for their return to Nigeria after the 2026 Hajj.
The appeal comes as the return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims continues with the departure of pilgrims from Nasarawa State, Kebbi State , Ogun State, Kogi State, Jigawa State, Osun State and Gombe State among others.
Speaking to Edo pilgrims in Makkah, the Board leadership emphasized the importance of complying with airline and National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) baggage guidelines to ensure a smooth and hitch-free departure process.
They reminded pilgrims that each pilgrim is entitled to two checked-in bags weighing 23 kilograms each and one hand luggage not exceeding 8 kilograms, warning that multiple hand luggage items would not be allowed.
The Chairman and the Executive Secretary further informed pilgrims that luggage screening would be conducted 48 hours before their scheduled departure, stressing that compliance with the regulations would facilitate timely clearance and early retrieval of luggage upon arrival in Nigeria.
They specifically cautioned pilgrims against packing Zamzam water or other prohibited items in their luggage, noting that such items would be confiscated during screening and could lead to unnecessary delays and exposure of luggage to tampering.
According to them, prohibited items include flammable materials, lighter fluid, lithium batteries and power banks packed in checked baggage, aerosols, excessive quantities of liquids, and sharp objects in hand luggage.
The Edo Hajj Board leadership urged pilgrims to cooperate fully with officials handling the screening exercise and to strictly follow all instructions issued by the board and relevant Saudi and Nigerian authorities.
They expressed appreciation to the pilgrims for their discipline throughout the Hajj exercise and prayed for Allah's continued guidance and protection as they prepare to return home safely.
