Gov Okpebholo's Ramat Park Flyover Wins Public Commendation as Completion Nears

By Richard Eweka

Residents, traders, transport operators, motorists and scout groups around the Ramat Park axis of Benin City have continued to commend Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, over the near completion of the Ramat Park Flyover Bridge, describing the project as a landmark infrastructural development that is already transforming the landscape of the state capital and set to permanently address traffic congestion along the busy Ikpoba Hill–Ramat Park corridor.

The commendations followed the advanced stage of construction work on the flyover, one of the signature projects of the Okpebholo administration, which is expected to significantly improve vehicular movement, boost commercial activities and enhance road safety within the metropolis.

Speaking during an excursion to the project site, Scout Leader, Pastor William Iseghale, described the flyover as a clear reflection of purposeful leadership and strategic governance aimed at solving long-standing transportation challenges in Edo State.

According to him, beyond easing traffic flow, the project would improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians while giving Benin City a more modern and attractive outlook.

“This project represents progress, urban renewal and responsive governance. It is not just about infrastructure; it is about improving the daily experiences of the people,” he said.

Some of the scouts who visited the site also expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo, noting that the near-completed flyover gave many of them their first experience of standing on a flyover bridge, describing the moment as memorable and inspiring.

Traders operating around the Ramat Park corridor and adjoining markets equally applauded the pace and quality of work on the project. One of the traders, Blessing Bliss, acknowledged that while construction activities initially caused temporary inconveniences, the long-term economic and commercial benefits of the flyover would greatly outweigh the early challenges.

Commercial drivers and transport operators also described the project as a major relief from years of persistent gridlock on the route, expressing optimism that the flyover would drastically reduce travel time and improve transportation efficiency across Benin City.

Residents within the area further praised Governor Okpebholo for prioritising infrastructure development, noting that the project has already improved the physical outlook of the environment and restored public confidence in government-driven urban renewal efforts.

The Ramat Park Flyover, regarded as the first of its kind in Edo State, was conceived to address chronic traffic congestion at one of Benin City’s busiest intersections while also tackling flooding challenges through the construction of supporting drainage infrastructure.
