Must every individual see the new moon before beginning to fast?
In an authentic Hadith narrated by Abdullah Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, he said, " One day, people tried to spot the new moon of Ramadan and all failed except me. And I told Allah's Messenger (SAW) that I had seen it. He then fasted and ordered the people to fast"
On the basis of the above Hadith, the learned Muslim scholars agreed that an honest man, who can be trusted not to lie can have his claim of sighting the moon accepted.
Therefore, if the Muslim leadership accepts his testimony, then, it is compulsory for all to start fast.
