Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebhbholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development of the state, stressing that delivering visible and sustainable growth remains his primary focus in governance.
The governor stated this during an inspection of ongoing government projects in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area recently.
The inspection tour covered major infrastructural and economic projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery, boosting internally generated revenue, and promoting tourism in the area.
Among the projects inspected were the ongoing construction of a 150-bed space Edo Specialist Hospital in Udomi, the Udomi Town Hall designed to serve as an event centre and revenue-generating facility, and the Udomi Holiday Resort project. The resort is expected to feature a golf course, film village, hotel, and other tourism-supporting facilities when completed.
Addressing stakeholders during the inspection, Governor Okpebholo said his administration is driven by a clear vision to transform Edo State through purposeful development.
“my intention is to develop Edo. That is what you are seeing here,” the governor said, noting that his long-standing advocacy for modern infrastructure is now being translated into concrete action.
He emphasized that Edo State’s rich historical heritage should not be a barrier to progress but a foundation for modern growth and renewal.
“During my campaign, I kept telling people: why should Edo be an ancient city? We started early as a state. What brought the Portuguese to Edo was what they heard about Edo. Edo cannot continue to be an ancient city. We must improve it and leave it better than the way we met it,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo further assured residents that significant infrastructural and urban transformation, particularly in Benin City, would become evident within the next two years.
He added that development efforts under his administration would be evenly distributed across the state’s three senatorial districts.
“In the next two years, you will see a lot of changes in Benin City. We are going to do it across board because we have three senatorial districts,” the governor stated.
The inspection tour was conducted in the company of top government officials and party leaders, including retired General Cecil Isegaigbe, APC Edo Central leader; Sylvester Aigbobor, APC State Deputy Chairman; and other senior government and party officials.
