The Forum of Commissioners of Power and Energy in Nigeria (FOCPEN) has congratulated Engr. Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat on his appointment as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

In a statement issued in Abuja and jointly signed by FOCPEN Chairman, Prince Eka Williams, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Cross River State, and Acting Secretary, Engr. Mohammed Ihiezue Abdulmutalib, Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Kogi State, the forum described the appointment as “well-deserved and timely.”

FOCPEN also extended felicitations to Mr. Abubakar Yusuf and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun on their appointments as Commissioners for Consumer Affairs, and Finance and Management Services, respectively.

The forum noted that Dr. Ramat’s emergence at the helm of NERC comes at a critical period in Nigeria’s electricity sector, expressing confidence that his leadership, rooted in technical expertise and reform-driven vision, would strengthen the regulatory framework and improve consumer confidence in the power industry.

The statement read, "As a body representing sub-national energy leadership across Nigeria, FOCPEN believes that a robust, efficient, and fair power sector is vital for national development and economic growth,”

“We look forward to collaborating with NERC in advancing a sustainable state electricity market and reinforcing the operational integrity of the wholesale electricity market, which remains a backbone for energy development in the country.”

FOCPEN added that it is optimistic that Dr. Ramat’s tenure would usher in innovation, inclusivity, and regulatory excellence.

The forum pledged its readiness to engage with the Commission on policy alignment, market design, and capacity-building initiatives that would ensure reliable and equitable power supply for Nigerians.
