Condemnation of the Uromi Tragedy: A Call to Justice and Peace

The Edo State Muslim Youth Council, also known as the National Council of Muslim Youth Organization (NACOMYO), Edo State Chapter, strongly condemns the brutal killing of 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria in Uromi, Edo State. This heinous act, fueled by false accusations and ignorance, highlights the dangers of mob justice and emphasizes the importance of upholding the rule of law.

We urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for this tragedy are held accountable. The arrest of some suspects so far is a positive step, but more needs to be done to address the underlying issues that led to this incident. We call on the government to enhance law enforcement, improve intelligence sharing among security agencies, and promote public awareness about the dangers of mob violence.

The lives lost in this tragedy demand justice, and the survivors deserve the assurance that they can live without fear of becoming a victim. We commend the Executive Governors of Edo State and Kano State for their proactive response to calm the situation and urge them to do more in maintaining peace in both regions.

We appeal to Nigerian youths and travelers to live decent and responsible lives, restraining anger in all circumstances. May Allah grant peace to the victims and heal the survivors.

*Key Demands:*

- *Justice for the victims*: Ensure that those responsible for the tragedy are held accountable.
- *Enhanced law enforcement*: Improve security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
- *Public awareness*: Promote education and awareness about the dangers of mob violence.
- *Peacekeeping*: Encourage the governments of Edo State and Kano State to maintain peace in both regions at all cost.
