The Edo Muslim for Equity and Good Governance (EMEGG) has praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for signing the Edo State Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, while also appealing for leniency for the suspended Chief Executive Officer of Edo State Flood, Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (EDOFEWMA), Mr. Ahmed Musa Momoh.
In a letter dated January 30, 2025, and signed by the group's General Coordinator, Sheikh Sirajudeen Muhammad, and Secretary, Abdullah Umar, the organization commended the Governor's "zero-tolerance approach to cultism," stating that the new law justifies their support for his leadership.
The group expressed confidence that the legislation, which includes stiff penalties for cult-related activities, will serve as a strong deterrent and create a safer environment for all Edo State residents.
According to the group, “We write this letter of commendation with gratitude to Almighty God for your intervention in the safety of Edo people under your leadership. This justifies that our support to you as the only Muslim pressure group in Edo State that publicly endorsed and campaigned during your campaign era is not regrettable”
They further suggested that similar legislation should be enacted to address the issue of drug peddling, which they described as another significant societal problem.
The group pledged their continued support to the governor in his efforts to ensure the peace and prosperity of Edo State.
In a separate letter on the same date, the group appealed for a “soft landing” for Mr. Ahmed Musa Momoh, the suspended FEWMA Chief Executive Officer, who was recently suspended for gross misconduct. While acknowledging that Momoh’s actions leading to the suspension were regrettable, the group appealed for forgiveness, citing the circumstances surrounding the suspension.
“In light of the circumstances, we respectfully appeal for a soft landing for the FEWMA Boss. We believe that this would be a fair and compassionate decision, considering the circumstances surrounding the suspension”
They expressed confidence that the suspension had taught Momoh a valuable lesson and pledged their commitment to ensuring such errors are not repeated. The group emphasized their valued relationship with the governor's administration and looked forward to continuing their partnership.
