In a significant move to streamline government operations, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) today announced the abolition of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development. The decision, which was made during a meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, aims to enhance efficiency and focus on key areas of development. That was according to TheCable news reported at 1:34pm today.
To oversee the responsibilities previously handled by the Ministry of Niger Delta, the National Sports Commission (NSC) will now assume the role of the Ministry of Sports Development. Additionally, a newly established Ministry of Regional Development will be responsible for supervising all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission (NWDC), South West Development Commission (SWDC), and North East Development Commission (NEDC).
Furthermore, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, creating a unified ministry to promote the country's cultural heritage and tourism industry.
In a separate development, President Tinubu administered the oath of office to Abdullahi Bello as the new chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). Bello will oversee the bureau's operations and ensure compliance with ethical standards in the public sector. Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony, Bello expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to combat corruption through existing systems and institutions.
