Edo Govt Disowns Threat Video, Says Okpebholo Won’t Tolerate Political Violence

The Edo State Government has distanced itself from a trending video allegedly showing a political appointee, Emmanuel Akpan, popularly known as “Egogo,” issuing threats against members of an opposition party.

Speaking during a press conference in Benin City, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kasim Afegbua, said the comments made in the video do not reflect the position of the government.

He stressed that Governor Monday Okpebholo does not condone political violence, intimidation, or the use of inflammatory language against opposition figures.

“Let it be on record that the governor does not tolerate gangsterism, political hooliganism, or any attempt to subdue the opposition through threats or violent expressions,” Afegbua said.

He described the remarks in the viral video as personal opinions, noting that the individual involved should be held accountable under the law.

“We disown that statement completely. It is the voice of an individual and not that of the Edo State Government. Such conduct is unacceptable, and the appropriate authorities are expected to take necessary action,” he added.

Afegbua emphasized that the administration welcomes constructive opposition, noting that democratic engagement and healthy criticism are essential for good governance.

“We encourage robust and constructive engagement. Opposition helps to strengthen governance and improve service delivery,” he said.

The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, political tolerance, and respect for the rule of law across the state.
