The Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor Esq., has emphasized the importance of open dialogue and constructive engagement in strengthening the Muslim community’s role in governance.
Speaking at the two-day Muslim Summit held in Benin City with the theme “The Role of the Muslim Ummah in Promoting Good Governance,” the SSG praised the quality of discussions and encouraged continuous platforms for free expression and interrogation of issues affecting society.
The SSG said, “I want to appreciate the speakers for a job well done. And we encourage forums like these where we should not be afraid of interrogating issues, allowing people to express themselves,”
The summit, organized by the Amana Legacy Foundation, brought together scholars, policymakers, traditional rulers and community leaders to explore how the Muslim Ummah can contribute to accountability, transparency, and participatory governance.
The event, which ended today, was chaired by the Oghieaga of Ibies, HRH Mallam Ali D. Suleyman.
Key speakers included Hon. Lukman Muhammad, a former member of the EFCC board, and Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, who delivered insights on leadership and self accountability as principles of evaluation.
Participants described the summit as timely, coming at a period when Nigeria is seeking stronger citizen participation and moral leadership across all sectors.
