Two Edo youths, 13-year-old comedian Uwoma Nelson and 20-year-old upcoming musician Destiny Okohur, have emerged joint winners of the ₦1 million grand prize at the 7th edition of the MC Allumano Is Joking comedy show, held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City recently.

The event, which drew a full house, treated the audience to an exciting evening of laughter, drama, music, and dance, showcasing the richness of Edo’s creative talent.

Out of 32 contestants who began the competition, 12 finalists made it to the grand stage after several rounds of auditions. Performances spanned comedy, dance, poetry, and drama, with the live audience serving as judges to determine the winners.

Speaking with journalists, the State Executive Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy, Amb. Solomon Okosun, commended the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo for creating the enabling environment for the creative sector to thrive.

“The Allumano Comedy Show has grown bigger each year. We started this edition with 32 participants, screened them to 12, and tonight, two talented Edo youths are walking away with the grand prize of one million naira,” Okosun said.

He added that the Edo State Government, through the SHINE Agenda of Governor Okpebholo, continues to empower young people and promote the creative industry as a key driver of economic growth.

Also in attendance, former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye, praised the Okpebholo administration for ensuring a secure and business-friendly environment that has revived nightlife and boosted public confidence.

“Nightlife is back in Benin City. The State is fast moving towards a 24-hour economy because people now feel safe to come out and enjoy themselves. The Okpebholo-led administration has restored peace and confidence by showing zero tolerance for criminality. This is helping our entertainment and tourism industries to flourish,” Okiye said.

An entertainer and member of the audience, Porcupine, lauded MC Allumano for his consistency and called on stakeholders to support the discovery and development of new talents in Edo State’s growing entertainment industry.

The success of the 7th edition of the Allumano Comedy Show reflects the Edo State Government’s commitment to nurturing creativity and building a vibrant cultural economy where young talents can shine.
