The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, has assured the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities of the Ministry’s support, signaling a new era of collaboration aimed at advancing the welfare of persons with disabilities across the eighteen Local Government Areas in Edo State.
Dr. Lucky Eseigbe disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities to his office, led by the Chairman, Mr. Theophilus Egbodion in Benin City. Expressing the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Commission, he commended the foresight of the Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for establishing a body dedicated to the welfare of persons with disabilities which he noted was first of its kind in the State and assured the Commission of the Ministry’s full support.
“For us, this is a plus to the Government of Senator Monday Okpebholo, we see no reason why, as a Ministry or at the Local Government level, we would not be able to collaborate with your Commission. Let us know the areas where collaboration is needed”. He said.
The Commissioner further emphasized the importance of partnership to ensuring that the five point agenda of senator Monday Okpebholo is realized and achieved in no distant time, adding that relevant bodies must work together to achieve common goals for the betterment of Edo people.
Earlier, the Chairman, Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Theophilus Egbodion, noted that the Commission was established in March 2025 under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo. He emphasized that the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration with the Ministry to enable the Commission effectively reach persons with disabilities at the grassroot level through the Local Government structures.
He added that the Commission would embark on visits to the Local Government Councils and appealed for the Ministry’s support in mobilizing Local Government Chairmen across the State.
This visit marks a significant step towards institutional support and inclusion for persons with disabilities in Edo State, with both parties agreeing on the need for close cooperation to ensuring lasting impact.
