Govr Okpebholo Bids Edo Pilgrims Farewell, Emphasizes Inclusivity

Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo visited the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board office in Benin City to bid farewell to the state's contingent of pilgrims embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. 

Represented by the Secretary to State Government, Barr. Umar Musa Ikhilor, the  Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to religious inclusivity and harmony within the state.

According to him, "It is my belief that other than merit, inclusivity, justice and fairness should be the criteria for ensuring sustainable development in any country"

He emphasized that merit, inclusivity, justice, and fairness are crucial for the sustainable development of any nation.

Acknowledging the significance of Hajj in Islam, the Governor described it as a pillar of Islam and an opportunity for the renewal of our faith and also for spiritual rebirth.

He urged all Edo State pilgrims to maximize this spiritual journey for personal renewal and to use it as an opportunity to pray for the development of Edo State, for peace, for safety, and for security of our lives and our people

The Governor called upon the pilgrims to be exemplary representatives of Edo State in Saudi Arabia. 

He noted, "I also want to encourage all pilgrims to be good ambassadors of Edo State and represent Edo in the best example," 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his visit and support. The board's secretary, Alhaji Eranga Abdulkabir, also made a statement, highlighting the board's preparations for a successful pilgrimage.

The Leader of the Delegation (Amir Hajj), HRH, Mallam Ali D. Sulayman, the Oghiaga of Ibvies, also addressed the departing pilgrims, offering words of guidance and encouragement for their spiritual journey.

The atmosphere at the Welfare Board office was filled with a sense of anticipation and spiritual fervour as the pilgrims prepared for their journey to the holy land. Governor Monday Okpebholo's visit served as a morale booster and underscored the state government's recognition of the importance of religious practices to its citizens. The Edo State pilgrims are expected to depart for Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
