Key Edo State government muslim figures, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, and Hon. Gani Akohia, representing Constituency 11 in the Edo State House of Assembly, pledged both material assistance and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community in a powerful display of unity and faith as resonated at the annual Ramadan lecture organized by the Uzairue Council of Imaams and Ulamaas at Jattu Central Mosque in Uzairue Kingdom on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025.
The vibrant gathering showcased the strong support from these leaders, representing the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Addressing the assembled congregants, Chairman Uduimoh and Hon. Akohia emphasized Governor Okpebholo's deep interest in the well-being of Edo State's Muslim population. They stressed the critical role of prayers for the government's success and for Muslim officials holding key positions, specifically mentioning Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, and Chief of Staff, Hon. Ganiyu Audu.
Chairman Uduimoh highlighted the robust support he has received from Muslim officials since assuming his post two months ago.
Regarding the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, Uduimoh announced that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had extended the payment deadline until the middle of Ramadan.
According to him, "This extension was granted following our persistent appeals, citing our recent appointment and the need for more time to engage with our community," encouraging both prospective pilgrims and sponsors to seize the opportunity.
He lauded Hon. Akohia's proactive involvement in the board's sensitization efforts, recognizing him as the first lawmaker in the current administration to demonstrate such dedication and for sponsoring individuals for Hajj recently.
Hon. Akohia reiterated the Okpebholo administration's commitment to advocating for the community's needs, including increased Hajj slots and improved welfare. He assured the gathering that Governor Okpebholo would appoint more Muslims to strategic positions.
"The development of the Jattu market is a priority for me as your representative," Hon. Akohia stated. "We have assessed the market, and, by God's grace, we will take the necessary steps. We will also support our women traders in that market."
The event attracted a diverse array of dignitaries, including Honourable Lukman Muhammad (member of Governing Council, AAU), Chief Alhaji K. O Shaibu, Abu Datto, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Shuaib (Chief Imam of Uzairue Kingdom), Alhaji Abudu Momodu (Daudu 1 of Uzairue Kingdom), and members of the United Muslim Youths Association of Nigeria (UMYAN) and women's groups.
The Ramadan lecture served as a powerful testament to community cohesion and the government's dedication to supporting the Muslim population of Edo State.
