The Edo State Government has dismissed recent comments by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the ongoing recruitment of teachers in the state. In a press statement released today, Sunday, October 27, 2024, the state government described the APC’s remarks as “laughable and concerning.”
The statement, signed by the Hon. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, emphasized the importance of the recruited teachers in advancing the transformative Edobest program, which aims to improve educational standards in the state.
The government further clarified that the recruitment process began months ago, well before the recent elections, highlighting the commitment of the current administration to ensuring a well-staffed education system.
“The qualified teachers who have recently been engaged were not appointed on a whim; they began the application process months ago,” the statement reads.
The government also took the opportunity to remind the APC of the constitutional limitations on its current authority, stating that only one governor holds power at a given time. Until November 12th, the APC lacks the authority to influence policy decisions.
“It is important to remind Afegbua and his cohorts that, according to the Nigerian constitution, only one governor holds authority at any given time. Until November 12, they lack the power to influence policy decisions,” the statement added.
The government expressed concern over the APC’s repeated criticisms, suggesting that the party may be unprepared for the challenges ahead and is resorting to excuses to mask potential failures.
The government urged the people of Edo State, particularly teachers, parents, and students, to disregard the APC’s comments and focus on the positive progress being made in the education sector.
“Let us continue to focus on the positive progress being made in our education system and support the engaged and dedicated teachers who are working tirelessly to ensure a brighter future for our children,” the statement concluded.
